Annual Craft Fair
Between the months of May and June, the annual craft fair is held in Antigua . During this event, the Feria Insular de Artesanía offers various local Canarian products for sale. In addition, the town organizes an exhibition of local folk music and lively dancing.

The Pilgrimage of Peña
This celebration is in honor of the patron of Fuerteventura - Nuestra Señora de la Peña . It is usually held in the third Saturday of September. It is one outstanding yearly tradition where displays of the island s traditions and folklore are reenacted.

The Burial of the Sardine (El Entierro De La Sardina)
The carnival season in Antigua is in between February 18 to 23.
The burial of the Sardine takes place during the end of the Carnaval season. Although in most of Spain the sardine is buried, the towns in Fuerteventura , including Antigua , set the sardine on fire.
This tradition happens after it has been paraded into the streets. It is then set alight on the beach of Corralejo , next to the old town harbor. The ritual concludes with very loud and amazing fireworks.
The burial of the sardine dates back to hundreds of years ago and the traditional practice has been painted by numerous artists such as Francisco de Goya .

New Year s Eve Fiesta

The biggest celebration on Fuerteventura during New Year s Eve is held in its capital city. It starts before midnight in the church square. It is a Spanish tradition to swallow a grape every time the church bell strikes, and this is said to bring one good luck.
When the clock strikes twelve, the fireworks will explode, signaling the start of the celebration with live music, a variety of food and drinks. This merriment usually goes on all night.
